We receive a large amount of reading - a week would allow us to catch up.
After attending a Student Rep meeting, it was established that the staff members had previously asked the senior leadership for a reading week- even using student examples to back up why one is necessary. However, the conclusion was reached that the idea needed to be brought forward by students themselves. Being English students, it's assumed that we would have to read a lot- however, unlike other courses, we weren't given a week to catch up on important reading. This is especially important for students who have other commitments such as jobs, who only have a tight window to fit all the academic expectations into. While we understand that the course material may have to be re-arranged to cope with the week lost, for student wellbeing we feel that this is a necessary evil.
